Get involved: Q School Snooker Stats

If you’re playing in the Q School 2012 and you want your match stats featured on our pages, in full technicolor, here’s what you need to do before the events begin:

  1. Sign up for your free account on our site
  2. Download our free iPhone app or Android app (or follow your emailed instructions for other phones)
  3. Register your app to your account so that you can upload matches (your individual UserID and passcode will be emailed to you when you sign up)
  4. Go into the app’s Settings page and choose Professional Mode so that all your stats are recorded.

Now for the hard bit: find a willing spectator who can record the whole of your match. You’ll need to find someone you can trust to tell the difference between a pot, a long pot and a safety shot, which might be harder than you’d imagine! (What’s a long pot?! Best to tell them that it’s any pot where the cue ball and object ball are more than about six feet apart…)

At the end of the match, choose Menu->End Match and click Upload to upload all the details straight into our database. Let us know when you’ve uploaded – tweet us or facebook us – and we’ll make sure you are included in our round-up. Who knows? Some of you could be entertaining us at venues like the Crucible in the future! Good luck!

How consistent are you?

This new feature, for our Premium Subscribers only, will tell you how the standard of your performance varies over every session of snooker you’ve played. Your last three months of performances are in red, the three months prior to that in yellow, and all the older stuff in green. Armed with this information, you’ll have a clearer understanding of the highs and lows of your game, and put each new match performance in better context. Continue reading

SWSA Festival 2012

Just returned from the inaugural South West Snooker Academy Team Festival, having had an excellent long weekend. A fine effort from the organizers and officials somehow enabled them to orchestrate several different competitions involving about 100 players across just 13 tables in three days. Continue reading

Team MySnookerStats

As the date approaches for the 5-man team event at SWSA, Gloucester, we’re delighted to announce the line-up for Team MySnookerStats. We’ve gone for a blend of youth and (life) experience. You may detect that one of the profile pics below was taken decades ago… Continue reading

Problems with the signup email?

A number of you have now got in touch saying that you never received a confirmation email when you completed the signup process on the site. These occasional failures to send emails have gone undetected for far too long, even after we thought we’d rectified the problem a month ago. We believe that the problem is now definitively sorted (as of December 8th 2011).

For those of you who never received your passcode, we hope you will make use of a new feature we’ve enabled to help out. When you log in, visit the My Account page where you can request an immediate passcode reminder. This should also help all our subscribers when they upgrade their phones too (or perhaps get themselves an iPad for Christmas!).

When you click the button, we’ll send you an email immediately. If it doesn’t arrive within a few minutes, please don’t be shy about telling us, because this part of the system simply has to work as reliably as the rest.

“My Pages” revamp continues

We’re in the process of revamping the whole of the “My Pages” section of the website, taking into account various bits of feedback that you’ve supplied. There’s lots more to come and we welcome further thoughts from you all. As a long-awaited feature, on the “My League” page, you can now see head-to-head records between all the other players in your current group. Being nosy has never been so much fun!

How does our site look in your browser? We’ve abandoned support for IE 6 (as have Microsoft at long last) and we recommend that you go modern too and choose from either the latest Firefox or Google Chrome to see your stats in the best possible light.

Make sure you update!

Version 1.2 on the iPhone and version 1.1 for Android are available now. If you haven’t updated yet, please do so as these versions contain fixes for a nasty issue when saving or reviewing your 50th match on the phone… We just had an Android crash report submitted for precisely this bug but we have no way whatsoever to respond to the person who hit the problem. (Thanks Android!)

iPhone update coming soon

Just a heads-up that we’ve submitted an updated version (1.2) of our iPhone app to the App Store. This fixes a nasty bug that occurs when trying to continue, review or upload the 50th match you have recorded – ouch! With this update you will now be able to complete that upload, in the usual manner, by reviewing the match and selecting ‘Upload’. We’ll post again once the new version has got its necessary export compliance and App Store review approval…
