Ladies’ World Championship 2015 Winner: Ng On Yee

Ng On Yee

Ng On Yee becomes the first new Ladies’ World Champion for a decade after eclipsing long-reigning champ Reanne Evans in the semi-final and Emma Bonney in the final.

The final was a cagey affair which saw both ladies struggling to reproduce their form of earlier rounds with nerves taking over as the big prize beckoned. Bonney actually led 2-0 before Ng battled her way back in and eventually accelerated away to complete her 6-2 triumph.

Ng’s performance of the tournament undoubtedly came in the semi-final against Reanne. A fine 44 helped her on the way to clinching the first frame on the pink, but when she was unable to complete a clearance in the next, Reanne responded with typical tenacity and style to level and then powered ahead with two hefty scoring visits sealing the third frame.

Ng’s response was determined and clinical, producing a 33 clearance under real pressure to level the match once again before a fine 55 put her just one frame away from a famous victory.

An edgy forty minute frame ensued, which On Yee eventually claimed with the last four colours to set up a final meeting against Emma Bonney who herself had impressed in defeating another fine Hong Kong talent, Jaique Ip Wan In, 4-1.

On Yee’s solid display of scoring to defeat the ten-time champion
